Dr. Gessner grew up in South Carolina before moving to the TarHeel State for undergraduate studies at UNC. She loved the area so much that she stated for medical school at UNC School of Medicine, where she met her husband who is also a physician in the area. Her training took her to the Baltimore/DC area, where she completed a Masters in Public Health in Maternal and Child Health at Johns Hopkins, and then back to SC for her pediatric residency at the Medical University of SC, Charleston.
She and her family have lived in the Triangle area since 2002. She has been busy raising her 3 kids, practicing pediatrics, and being involved in the community and church. Before coming to Triangle Pediatrics, she was at Wake Forest Pediatrics since 2010, except for the 2 years that she had the incredible privilege of living and serving at a mission hospital in Kijabe, Kenya. Dr. Gessner has gained experience in a variety of settings that have shaped her perspective and understanding of children, families and medicine. “I count each child and family interaction as valuable and important. I want children and parents to enjoy seeing me as their pediatrician and find me worthy of their trust.” She loves walking with families through the earliest weeks and months of life as well as watching children grow up through the years.
Dr. Gessner has taught 9th grad youth group at her church for several years and been involved in global missions on an ongoing basis. She also serves on the school board at her children’s school. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, travel, theater, cooking and being outdoors.
