Irene Chao, M.D.

Dr. Chao moved to Greensboro, NC from Hong Kong with her family when she was 13 years old. She graduated cum laude from Davidson College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. She earned her medical degree from the University Of North Carolina School Of Medicine and completed her residency at the University of North Carolina Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Chao is a member of both the North Carolina Medical Society and the North Carolina Pediatric Society. She is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a Diplomate of American Board of Pediatrics. Dr. Chao is a member of the affiliate staff at the University Of North Carolina School Of Medicine.

Dr. Chao and her husband are raising 2 children, a daughter and a son, while balancing busy careers. Like all of our providers, she knows that parenthood adds knowledge to her medical practice that can’t be taught in school. While Dr. Chao provides excellent care to children of all ages, she particularly enjoys working with our adolescent patients and their families. She is active in her church as a youth group counsellor and young adult small group leader. She lists cooking and exercising among her interests but says her favorite hobby is eating!
