The daughter of a career Navy officer, Dr. “Sam” Baer finds it hard to answer the question “where are you from?” Her formative years were spent in a small town in southern Indiana. She earned her undergraduate degree from Indiana University in Bloomington and her medical degree at Indiana University in Indianapolis, where she graduated with honors. From there, she served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force for 11 years, where her experiences included being the director of a level 2 NICU as well as inpatient pediatric director and outpatient pediatric medical director. While in the Air Force, she had the opportunity to complete the School of Aerospace Medicine with emphasis on parachute landing, field and water survival, decompression medicine, human centrifuge, and flying the T37 Jet . She also had the opportunity to live overseas in Adana, Turkey. Dr. Baer feels her military experience was key in giving her the experience of leadership and the incredible learning opportunities that have formed her life skills and medical practice today. She wouldn’t trade any of it.
Dr. Baer is the mother of three grown children. She has several hobbies including cycling, music, hiking, traveling and reading.
