Vaccine Policy
The Physicians of Triangle Pediatrics seek to follow the best science available and we believe that vaccines are crucial to every child’s health. We strongly recommend that patients receive vaccinations according to the schedule published by the CDC.
To reduce the risk of transmission of specific diseases within our facility, we require patients to receive the following immunizations at the appropriate ages: DTaP, IPV, MMR, Varivax, HIB, PCV, MCV. If parents decline these specific immunizations, we will ask you to seek a different pediatric practice for your child’s care.
We also strongly encourage patients to receive the following vaccinations: Hep B, Hep A, HPV, MenB, annual Flu and annual Covid.
We understand that parents have questions about vaccines, and we are committed to taking the time to answer all your questions. We want you to know the following:
- Numerous well-designed, independent, world-wide scientific studies have shown there is no connection between vaccines and autism or between the use of vaccine preservatives tand autism.
- The schedule and timing of vaccines as recommended has been tested for both safety and effectiveness. Other schedules are completely untested. There is no evidence that “spreading out” vaccines reduce the rate of adverse events. In fact, delaying vaccines prolongs the time that your child is susceptible to these diseases. In addition, booster doses are administered when your child’s immunity may be waning. Spacing vaccines out may result in periods of increased susceptibility to vaccine-preventable diseases. Longer than recommended intervals between booster doses may result in inadequate immune responses.
- Receiving multiple vaccines at one time does not “overwhelm” a child’s immune system. Children encounter thousands of antigens daily and their immune systems function well in this environment. Current vaccines have 50-fold fewer types of antigens than those given in the past.
- We support the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendation to use combination vaccines like the DTaP and MMR whenever possible to minimize the discomfort for children and ensure timely protection from disease.
- There is no evidence that the aluminum, other adjuvants, or preservatives (including Thimerisol) in vaccines pose any danger to children. These adjuvants boost the child’s immune response to the vaccine so that useful immunity can be established.
- While side effects can occur, serious adverse effects like allergic reactions are rare.
As always, we remain committed to promoting your child’s health and safety. We look forward to a long and productive relationship with your family.
